New beginnings

Share:

The summer holidays are always such an exciting time of the year, but they can also be the gateway from the familiar to the unknown. You might be starting school or college, or are transitioning from primary to high school. Hear from some of our members who have been in the same situation or will be facing new beginnings just like you.

Everyone at the MPS Society wishes all the children and young people who are moving onto pastures new in September good luck and have a wonderful autumn term!

Aisha

After a short but a wonderful few months in nursery, where she loved to explore and enjoyed all the activities, Aisha is really looking forward to starting school in September.

I was a little nervous about the whole situation but having spoken to Sally at the MPS Society, I feel a lot more positive and confident that Aisha will do amazing in this next chapter of her life.

Luna

Me and Gareth are both so proud of Luna that she is starting big school. The school has been amazing with many meetings to discuss worries and how they can best support Luna and us. You have been amazing with your support arranging training with the school. I am excited for her to start school but also so worried.

It's letting go of the control you have of their care you give each day, I can cater for every need Luna has when she is with me, I'm going to have to put a lot of trust in the school to help her and take good care of her which is scary.

I know she is ready and I will adapt but it is a huge step for both me, my husband and Luna and I hope she loves it.

Ethan

Ethan has recorded a message for you, listen to it here:

I am excited and nervous about going to college because I knew everyone in comprehensive school and they knew me for who I am and in college they don't yet.

Leah

My name is Leah, and in September I will be starting college. For my GCSE’s, I chose English, maths, science, design technology, textiles and sociology. In college, I am doing a Level 3 Art and Design course. The course lasts for two years and involves visual language in art and design, drawing, painting, photography, fashion and problem solving. I picked textiles for GCSE with no intention of it becoming my favourite subject, I discovered my love for fashion and creating unique designs and pieces. In the future, I aspire to be a fashion designer or stylist, so having a textiles element in my course at college was really important to me.

I’m a little nervous about starting college as it will be a new environment but I’m looking forward to having more freedom and meeting new people!

We are here

Starting nursery or going to a new school can be daunting for both parents/carers and children alike. Our Support and Advocacy Team can help make this transition as smooth as possible by providing information to staff, contributing to pastoral support or EHC Plans and attending review or transition meetings. Sometimes, just a chat could help.

We are just a phone call 0345 389 9901 or an email advocacy@mpssociety.org.uk away.
