We are pleased to launch our new counselling service at the MPS Society for patients and family members impacted by MPS, Fabry and related diseases who are over 18.
Our MPS Society counsellors are Stephen Johnson and Zubyda Azzam.
They have a particular interest in the impact of MPS, Fabry and related diseases, and are provided for us through Rareminds.

Stephen is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. He has a particular interest in men’s mental health and wellbeing, and also in LGBTQ+ issues. In a previous life, Stephen worked in technology, and as a consultant to companies regarding talent development. He has also worked as a volunteer for the Samaritans.
As well as working as a therapist for raremindsCIC, Stephen is a counsellor and seminar leader for a charitable counselling organisation in Hertfordshire. He also has a private practice in London.
Zubyda is an accredited member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists. She has worked as a therapist in a variety of settings including the NHS, prisons and in residential settings. Zubyda has provided group and individual psychotherapy for migrant refugees in temporary camps in mainland Europe, and for the staff and volunteers. She has also been a volunteer for the Samaritans.
As well as working for raremindsCIC, Zubyda works in private practice in London. She offers therapy in both Arabic and English.
