Building a fitness brand: the motivation and challenges behind SabreFit

Share:

For anyone living with MPS, you’ll know that life is a mix of good days, tough days and everything in between. And while each person’s journey looks different, there’s something meaningful about sharing a moment.

A shared moment was in the back of Sam's mind when he built fitness brand, SabreFit: "The idea came from the impact quotes had on me personally. I never saw gym brands really using them, so I wanted to create something meaningful that motivated and inspired people each time they wore it." We caught up with Sam to find out the inspiration behind his fitness clothing and why he is donating his profits to the MPS Society this Christmas.

A life of fitness

Fitness has always been one of the most important parts of Sam’s life. He trains nearly every day, not out of pressure or obsession, but because it keeps his mind clear, his body at its best and gives him structure and purpose.

His drive didn’t appear from nowhere. Growing up, Sam heard stories about his grandad, a man who started with nothing, not even a home, and built successful businesses entirely from scratch. That upbringing planted a spark in Sam early on: the belief that achieving something meaningful is possible for anyone, no matter their starting point.

So when he left school, and the traditional 9 to 5 path didn’t feel right, he listened to that instinct. He wanted to take a risk, build something of his own, and prove that you don’t need perfect circumstances, or perfect health, to chase a dream.

Where Sabrefit began

The first spark came from quotes. The kind of short lines that hit differently depending on the day you’re having and help you push through. Sam noticed that gym brands rarely used them, so he decided to build a brand that was meaningful, not just stylish.

Fitness was the space he loved most, and it felt like the place he could create the biggest impact. But turning an idea into a brand was far from simple. He went through name after name, logo after logo, and months of sketches. He fought for trademark rights and nearly gave up more than once.

Then, he found the name nobody had taken: Sabrefit. The moment it clicked, the journey began for real.

Clean, modern, built with purpose

Sabrefit’s style stands out: modern, minimal and designed to feel good both in and out of the gym. Every piece is intentional with clean lines, contemporary design and meaning woven into the brand’s identity.

Quality was non-negotiable. Sam tested sample after sample for months, refusing to put out anything he wouldn’t be proud to wear himself. Comfort, durability and fit were the three pillars he refused to compromise on.

To this day, Sam wears Sabrefit almost daily. Not just because it’s his brand, but because living in it helps him spot improvements, refine details and keep the quality evolving.

The MPS connection

This part of Sabrefit’s story is something many of you know firsthand.

Growing up with MPS II, Sam understands the reality – the good days, the hard days, the unpredictable days. And that experience found its way into the brand’s core message: resilience.

“Living with MPS II shaped everything,” he says. “You have good days and bad days, but neither lasts forever. That mindset – never giving up – is something I carry into the brand.”

“You have good days and bad days, but neither lasts forever. That mindset – never giving up – is something I carry into the brand.”

Supporting the charity that supported him wasn’t a branding move. It was natural. The charity’s work spans generations, helping both young people and adults – and Sam sees himself in the stories of the people we support.

The condition is undeniably tough, but the community around it is strong. Courage, solidarity and support are at the heart of it – and that’s exactly what Sam hopes people understand through Sabrefit.

Behind the scene challenges

Starting a brand alone is no small task. Sam handled everything himself: sourcing stock, managing the website, creating content, running social media and keeping the business afloat.

Then came one of the biggest setbacks – a company that took his money and never delivered the items he ordered. He had to take legal action while simultaneously growing the brand. It was overwhelming, but not enough to stop him.

Those challenges, though exhausting, made him more determined. And they made the victories sweeter. Like hearing from people who said Sabrefit motivated them, or getting help from people who believed in the brand, showing that Sabrefit was becoming something bigger than just clothing.

Why Sabrefit exists

Sam’s goal has always been clear: to make people feel seen, motivated and part of something bigger.

He wants the brand to raise awareness, inspire resilience and remind people they’re capable of far more than they think – whether they live with a rare disease or are navigating a challenge of their own.

Looking ahead

In the next year, Sam aims to grow Sabrefit’s range, sell out the remaining stock, and reach new people. Over the next five years, he hopes the brand becomes a recognised UK fitness name with events, collaborations and an expanded product line that stays true to its purpose.

That includes new colours, new styles, more women’s items and partnerships with athletes and creators who genuinely connect with the message.

If Sabrefit could spark one change, Sam says it would be to show people that no matter what they’re facing, they can push through it – and that their challenges are part of their strength.

A final message from Sam

“Never give up,” Sam says. “You’ll have good and bad days, but neither lasts forever. Your challenges don’t limit you, they shape you. Start small, but start.”

“Never give up"

People may be surprised by just how determined he is. “No matter how hard things get physically or mentally, I don’t let anything stop me. That determination is a huge part of why Sabrefit exists.”

And the moment that made it all real?

Seeing a stranger wearing Sabrefit for the first time.

“A complete stranger, wearing something I created. That feeling I’ll never forget it.”

Sam is donating 100% of his profits to the MPS Society until 25 December 2025 in recognition of a charity that has supported him and his family. Visit www.sabrefit.co.uk and use code MPS100 at checkout to trigger the donation.
