Ways to remember

When someone special to us dies, it’s natural to worry about losing the treasured memories you have of them. There are many ways to remember your loved one. Please speak with our team who can offer you support and guidance.

Make a memory box or jar

A memory box is a lovely way to keep items that remind you of your special person.  You could include photographs, poems, your thoughts and memories, or personal items that belonged to your special person.

A memory jar is a creative keepsake for a child or adult and is a way for them to share their feelings and memories of their special person. A jar is filled with layers of coloured sand with each one representing a particular memory of their special person.

Memory book or journal

A memory book can be any kind of notebook or scrapbook in which you can place photographs, poems, letters or your own thoughts. Some families choose to do this together, which helps them to talk about the person who has died and share memories that are special to the whole family.

Creating a journal can help you express your feelings and thoughts and gives you a place to record any memories you have of your special person. Some people find it helpful to look at their journal at a later date to see how they have progressed in their journey of grief and to revisit their memories.

Create a remembrance tribute

Creating a remembrance tribute is a long-lasting way for you to remember someone you care about by sharing memories and photos and raising funds for those affected by MPS, Fabry and related diseases.

It is the perfect place to share your special stories, thoughts and memories with family and friends by adding music, photos and videos. You can light virtual candles in memory of your loved one and remember significant anniversaries. It means you have one space to keep all those special memories, which you can visit whenever you like for years to come.

Create a special walk

Some people find it helpful to create their own remembrance walk. It may involve walking in a place the person who has died particularly liked. You could make their remembrance walk an annual occasion which takes place on the anniversary of their death or around the time of their birthday. You may wish to make this a private walk or invite people who knew the person to join them.

Light a candle

Lighting a candle can be a very simple but powerful way of marking an anniversary, birthday or other special day. Some people like to read a poem or, if they have a faith, to say a prayer while lighting their candle.
