Childhood dementia: Global advocacy and research

Share:

Gail Hilton, Head of Programs at the Childhood Dementia Initiative in Australia, has dedicated the past six years to childhood dementia research and advocacy. She talks about how awareness, progress and investment could be driven with the help of family stories, evidencing and further research.

One in every 2.900 babies is born with a condition that causes childhood dementia. In Australia 91 deaths occur every year in people with the condition, compared to 92 deaths from childhood cancer (aged 0-14 years). Yet, the research funding provided for the latter is 4.6 times higher than for childhood dementia.

Childhood dementia is a global problem that needs a global solution.
