CSAC in 2025

Share:

CSAC is the MPS Society's Clinical Scientific Advisory Committee. Its chair Fiona Stewart looks back at an eventful year and talks about the exciting research projects the committee was able to support.

Well, the past twelve months have been a very busy time for CSAC. Our highlight was undoubtedly the MPS Matters 2025 family conference. We were absolutely delighted with the quality of the research submissions for the Dragon's Den and the poster competitions.

It’s great for us to see how many committed young researchers are out there.

In this year’s funding round, we have agreed to support three projects, one on exercise, one on respiratory function and one on urinary markers. I would like to thank the trustees for agreeing on some additional funding which allowed all three projects, each covering very different areas, to be supported. We look forward to sharing the outcomes with you in due course.

We also joined a number of online meetings with pharma companies to discuss and advise on a variety of projects.

It's great to see how much the advice of CSAC is valued.

In October, Bob and I attended an Aspire event in London which tries to link up patient organisations who have unmet needs with biotech and pharma companies who might be able to help. We are now following up some leads which involved us presenting and speed-dating with the companies.

Looking ahead to 2026

Some of the CSAC members will be attending the WORLD meeting in San Diego at the start of February which is always a very exciting time. It will be even more thrilling this time around as we will see Bob receive his Patient Advocacy Leader award which is very well deserved.

We are also in the process of planning another online CSAC open evening on 29 January where you will have the chance to hear from some of our researchers in a conversational setting.

Register here and I hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank all my fellow CSAC members and of course the wonderful Harriet who makes everything run so smoothly.
